REDDING, Calif. –
It has been in the works for years, Costco Wholesale Corp. finally applied for a building permit for the construction of their new store, according to Kent Manuel, the city of Redding’s planning manager.
Manuel said they received the permit application just over a week ago.
He added it will take a few weeks to review the site plan, but Manuel hopes to have the first review done by December 21.
Brian Crane, the city of Redding public works director, said a portion of the new building will sit on a portion of where Twin View Boulevard is currently at. He explained the road will need to be realigned.
“So we will make any comments,” Manuel noted. “In theory, if the plans were perfect we would be able to issue our building permit at that point and time. Usually there are one or two iterations. They are a large set of plans, probably weighing about 20 pounds or so. So there are a lot of things to check.”
According to a site plan draft, the new building is expected to be 148,000-square-feet.
Manuel said they have been authorized to work with Costco’s engineer on the road improvements that are needed.
Crane said the road construction is expected to start next summer and is estimated to take four months.
